Cyber Safety

In today’s digital age, students are exposed to the internet from an early age. While technology offers tremendous opportunities for learning and growth, it also brings certain risks. Air Force School, Kanpur Cantt is committed to creating a safe online environment and to educating students, parents, and teachers about responsible and secure use of the internet. This Cyber Safety page provides essential guidance to help our school community stay safe online.

Why Cyber Safety Matters

Children and teenagers spend a significant part of their day online — for study, entertainment, and social interaction. Without awareness, they can be exposed to cyberbullying, inappropriate content, online predators, scams, and identity theft. Cyber safety education empowers students to recognise these dangers and to make smart, responsible choices.

  • Protects personal information and privacy
  • Prevents cyberbullying and online harassment
  • Guards against scams, phishing, and malware
  • Promotes responsible and ethical digital citizenship
  • Builds a healthy balance between screen time and real-life activities

Safety Tips for Students

  • Never share your passwords with anyone except your parents.
  • Do not share personal details — full name, address, phone number, school name, or photographs — with strangers online.
  • Think before you post. Anything shared online can be permanent and public.
  • Never agree to meet in person someone you have only met online.
  • Be respectful. Do not send hurtful, threatening, or embarrassing messages to others.
  • If something online makes you feel uncomfortable, scared, or upset, tell a trusted adult immediately.
  • Use strong, unique passwords and enable privacy settings on all accounts.
  • Do not click on unknown links, pop-ups, or attachments — they may contain viruses.
  • Avoid downloading apps, games, or files from untrusted sources.
  • Take regular breaks from screens and keep a healthy balance with offline activities.

Guidance for Parents

  • Keep computers and devices in common areas of the home where you can supervise usage.
  • Talk openly and regularly with your child about their online activities.
  • Set clear rules for screen time, websites, and apps that are allowed.
  • Use parental controls and safe-search settings on devices and browsers.
  • Know which social media platforms, games, and apps your child uses.
  • Teach your child never to share personal or family information online.
  • Watch for warning signs of cyberbullying — withdrawal, anxiety, or reluctance to use devices.
  • Encourage your child to come to you without fear if something goes wrong online.

Dealing with Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is the use of digital technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. It can happen through messages, social media, gaming platforms, or emails. If you or someone you know is being cyberbullied:

  • Do not respond or retaliate — this often makes the situation worse.
  • Save the evidence — take screenshots of messages, posts, or images.
  • Block the person sending harmful content.
  • Report it to the platform, and tell a parent, teacher, or the school counsellor.
  • Reach out for support — you are never alone, and help is always available.
